What does this mean?

Energy related carbon dioxide (CO2) is a measure of emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil fuel to generate electricity for all sectors.

Why does this matter?

Recently, many corporations, municipalities, and state governments have developed climate action plans and/or committed to reduce CO2 emissions. This metric represents our state’s relative performance in conjunction with those interests and obligations.
