Did you know 95 percent of the world’s consumers live outside the United States? Manufacturers in America, and here in North Carolina, must be able to reach those consumers to grow their businesses and create jobs. Therefore, a robust trade policy is critical to manufacturing statewide and nationwide. In North Carolina, trade is vital to our thriving manufacturing industry. Exports of North Carolina goods totaled approximately $29 billion last year, and directly supported more than 90 thousand jobs. Trade is one policy area where we need Washington to help take the lead—to negotiate market-opening agreements with other countries and to pursue a robust trade agenda that puts our manufacturers on a level playing field in a highly competitive global economy. Manufacturers produce in a globally competitive economy, and we cannot sit on the sidelines.
