House Vote Today on Bill to Stabilize Transportation Funding
As you know, North Carolina is heading toward a transportation funding cliff and elected officials need to act now to implement both short- and long-term solutions to address transportation funding challenges.
The first step is to stabilize the current funds available to meet existing transportation infrastructure needs. Senate Bill 20 takes this important first step and was passed yesterday in both the House Finance and Appropriations Committees. Today, the bill faces a critical vote on the House floor. We appreciate the support of House Finance and Appropriations Committee members.
Senate Bill 20 addresses transportation funding fluctuation by cutting the current gas tax and freezing the rate at 36 cents per gallon until 2016 to ensure consistent transportation revenue in the near future. In addition to supporting Senate Bill 20, the NC Chamber remains committed to advancing long-term reforms that establish North Carolina’s transportation infrastructure as a competitive advantage in the battle for job creation.
The voice of the business community is critical for lawmakers to hear and is making a difference on this issue. Take action to urge your representative to demonstrate this same commitment to the long-term safety and reliability of your transportation system!
Thank you to those who have already taken action! We will continue to keep you updated.
