If you hit the roads today in North Carolina chances are good that, unless you collided with a pothole or got stuck behind a sea of stationary brake lights, you didn’t give a second thought to the important role safe and efficient roads play in your daily life. We think about this essential part of our vibrant state every day at the NC Chamber, however, and that’s why we recently released a new TV ad highlighting the need for North Carolina’s leaders to act now to secure the future safety of our transportation network.

As the ad states, without long-term funding solutions in place our state is set to collide with a future of poor infrastructure. It’s a bold statement to be sure, but a proactive one that looks ahead to future growth projections, and one supported by recent studies that have spotlighted the declining conditions of our rural and urban roads, both nationally and in North Carolina. And while it might sound like a dour refrain, the ad’s message finishes with a focus on the good news: that as North Carolinians, we can do something to prevent this oncoming collision by encouraging our leaders to support long-term transportation funding reform in 2015.
