In his role as director of government affairs, Mark Coggins advocates for policies and solutions that propel North Carolina’s private sector job growth while maintaining our nationally competitive business climate. He enjoys the variety of each day in his role, and even when similar issues are faced, there is always something new about the conversation.

Mark attended Campbell University for undergrad and received his Master of Public Administration degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the NC Chamber, Mark worked in the House of Representatives for more than seven years, where he developed an understanding of many policy areas and the legislative process.

While the NC Chamber may be small, it is a powerful force making a real difference in our state, and Mark enjoys working for this organization of passionate, caring, and encouraging people. He also appreciates the NC Chamber’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion to celebrate everyone’s unique story and our commitment to hard conversations that build mutual respect and meaningful dialogue.

With deep roots in North Carolina, Mark appreciates our state’s beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and of course, barbecue. All of which he enjoys with his wife, Brittany, newborn daughter, and rambunctious Aussiedoodle, Daisy. He has also been known to be found in the kitchen cooking and baking gluten-free goodies, out for a run, or planning his next trip to Walt Disney World. When thinking about progress in work or in life, Mark believes, “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.”
