NC Chamber Names Alyssa Morrissey Director of Regulatory Affairs
The NC Chamber has named Alyssa Morrissey director of regulatory affairs. She will advocate for the NC Chamber’s legislative and regulatory agendas, focusing specifically on agriculture, energy, environmental, workplace, telecommunications, and regulatory policies.
“We are pleased to grow the NC Chamber’s advocacy team with this additional capability in the regulatory arena,” said Jake Cashion, vice president of government affairs at the NC Chamber. “Alyssa’s federal and North Carolina experience will be a valuable asset as we work to ensure that our regulatory processes move at the speed of business. Regulatory delays hurt economic development and our state’s job creators need a predictable permitting process that does not stall projects, limit new housing supply, or hurt economic development.”
Prior to joining the NC Chamber, Morrissey worked on the federal government relations team for Primerica Inc., a financial services company. Based in Washington, D.C., she oversaw policy areas including insurance, securities, mortgage, corporate governance, and data privacy. Morrissey also managed the Primerica Political Action Committee.
Morrissey previously served as a staffer for the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations at the North Carolina General Assembly. During her time at the NCGA, Morrissey drafted legislation addressing orphan roads and worked with the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency to expedite hurricane recovery efforts in eastern North Carolina. Most notably, Morrissey testified before a Gov Ops hearing to address K-12 learning loss as a result of COVID-19.
Morrissey earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Spanish and a Master of Arts in political science from Vanderbilt University. Her studies focused on Middle East politics, writing her thesis on militia activity in Iraq after the fall of Sadaam Hussein.
Morrissey joins Directors of Government Affairs Debra Derr and Mark Coggins and Political Director Kirk O’Steen on a seasoned government affairs team lead by Jake Cashion. The NC Chamber Government Affairs team is dedicated to creating and growing a business climate that fuels statewide economic prosperity. The NC Chamber is pleased to welcome Morrissey as the newest member of our team.
