People Building People

Contributed by SECU, Presenting Sponsor of the NC Chamber’s Workplace DEI Conference in Charlotte on September 26, 2023.

The workplace is the backbone of any organization. People are our most valuable resource. Serving one in four North Carolinians, State Employees’ Credit Union understands that investing in employees who have chosen to be part of your organization’s mission and embody your values is paramount. In building a workforce, we believe that embracing the uniqueness of individuals makes an organization stronger, more innovative, and better able to serve.

Studies show that employee engagement leads to an increase in productivity, profitability, and member satisfaction. We see these results when we welcome employees and when they feel like they belong, they experience being included, and they are valued. At SECU, we have experienced this continually in our 86 years. At our heart is the credit union philosophy: People Helping People® – a philosophy that all employees can relate to and be passionate about.

This philosophy is also strongly demonstrated by SECU members who opt for their $1.00 per month maintenance fee on their checking accounts to be reallocated to SECU Foundation, the Credit Union’s charitable arm. On behalf of our 2.7 million members, SECU Foundation awards grants to non-profits throughout North Carolina in four areas of impact: housing, education, healthcare, and human services.

As you travel throughout North Carolina, look for the SECU name on housing initiatives, educational and medical facilities, hospice houses, and more. All of this represents the tremendous work being done for the people of our great state through the profound member-funded concept we call the “Power of a Dollar.” In fact, SECU Foundation just surpassed a quarter of a billion dollars in funding for North Carolina non-profits! Read more about this exciting milestone.

Thank you again for joining us at the Conference.
