CSL Seqirus in Holly Springs: Where Global Health Meets Local Impact
From global vaccine production to local community partnerships, CSL Seqirus is shaping the future of public health—starting right here in Holly Springs.
Protecting Public Health from the Ground Up
The Holly Springs facility in North Carolina represents CSL Seqirus’ dedication to advancing life-saving influenza vaccines. Built through a public-private partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), the site is the world’s largest cell-based influenza vaccine manufacturing facility and a cornerstone of pandemic preparedness.
“This site is really a national security asset,” said Jon Kegerise, vice president of manufacturing and site head. “Built in partnership with BARDA, it’s designed to respond swiftly to pandemics, producing up to 150 million doses within six months of a pandemic declaration.”
That mission has had a lasting impact on the region. “We came to this region in 2007, and it’s hard to imagine what the Town of Holly Springs looked like all the way back then,” Jon reflected. “We grew from making just a few million doses in our first commercial campaign to manufacturing over half a billion doses.”
Fueling Talent and Giving Back
CSL Seqirus’ investment in Holly Springs goes beyond vaccine production. Through partnerships with local educational institutions and NCBiotech, the company is building a skilled workforce for the future.
“We also partner to make the community where we live, work, and play, a great place to live, work, and play,” Jon said. CSL Seqirus organizes initiatives like its annual Community Partnership Day and Earth Day celebrations, giving employees structured opportunities to give back. In 2024 alone, employees supported more than 20 nonprofits and contributed over 1,500 volunteer hours. From hosting flu shot clinics to partnering with the Town of Holly Springs for first responder support and economic development, CSL Seqirus continues to make a lasting impact in the region.
That same spirit of service extends to another key community—veterans transitioning into civilian careers.
Supporting Veterans Through NCBiotech’s MOVE Program
CSL Seqirus has a close partnership with NCBiotech’s Military Outreach and Veterans Engagement (MOVE) program, which helps veterans transition into the life sciences industry, offering on-the-job training and stable career opportunities. It provides more than a job—it offers purpose.
Alex Riccardi, a CSL Seqirus manufacturing associate and retired staff sergeant, is a testament to its success. “Originally, I was in the military for 10 years,” Alex shared. “Once that came to an end, I was looking to start my civilian career, and one of the things that got offered was an internship here at this company. Provided through the military, I could work there, get some on-the-job training, see if I like this, and then begin a career here. As you can see, it worked out pretty well for me.”
He also praised the shared values between military service and life sciences. “In the Army, we have things that we value, such as integrity, selfless service… and here in Seqirus, and what I found in life sciences as a whole, is you find those same values shared across the board.
Alex’s journey illustrates how CSL Seqirus invests in people, strengthening its workforce and mission through purpose-driven careers.
Global Reach, Local Heart
In addition to its work in North Carolina, CSL Seqirus distributes vaccines across five continents, protecting millions of lives each year.
“What they make here every day saves lives day in and day out,” said Gary Salamido, president and CEO of the NC Chamber. “The people here… come in every day thinking of other things outside of themselves to make the world safer, to make our country safer. It’s an incredible place with incredible people doing incredible things.”
With over 32,000 employees worldwide and operations in more than 40 countries, the company continues to innovate and expand its reach. The Holly Springs site alone has manufactured and delivered 450 million commercial doses over the past decade.
As North Carolina continues to lead in life sciences, CSL Seqirus is proving what’s possible at the intersection of innovation, impact, and community. Through its work in Holly Springs and beyond, the company continues to set the standard for innovation, outreach, and purpose-driven careers.
