Dr. Stephen C. Scott served as president of Wake Technical Community College 2003 to 2018. Before coming to Wake Tech, he served as president of Lenoir Community College in Kinston and as president of Southeastern Community College in Whiteville. Dr. Scott was executive vice president and chief operating officer of the NC Community College System from 1999 to 2002. His professional career began in South Carolina, where he first taught Business and Leadership and later served as Vice President of Greenville Technical College.

Under Dr. Scott’s leadership, Wake Tech recently became the largest of NC’S 58 community colleges based on annual full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment, which grew by 73% during his tenure. He has led the opening of the nation’s first all-LEED certified college campus and led the successful passage of bond referenda in 2004 and 2007. In 2008, Dr. Scott was named President of the Year by the NC Board of Community Colleges.  In 2013 Wake Technical Community College became the fastest growing large Community College in the United States.

Dr. Scott attended the University of Tennessee and Clemson University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics, his master’s degree in Administration, and his doctoral degree in Education from Clemson.

A native of Liberty, S.C., Dr. Scott worked in his family’s restaurants as a young man. He moved to North Carolina in 1988. Dr. Scott and his late wife, Patsy, have two children and three grandchildren.
