Tax Foundation's new white paper on North Carolina’s Tax Competitiveness

North Carolina’s transportation network provides the arteries of commerce that allow economic opportunity to flourish in our communities and connect our state to the larger global economy. In recent decades, however, our state’s leaders have been unable to secure the revenue needed to adequately invest in a modernized network of roads, bridges, rails, ports, and airports. Surging repair costs from devastating storms, an outdated revenue formula, and travel disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to a worsening transportation funding crisis. In order to pave the way for the significant population and economic growth we expect to see in coming years, we must re-imagine our approach to transportation funding in North Carolina.

To this end, the NC Chamber Foundation has compiled a brief survey that will allow us to better understand which solutions job creators and the public at large view as the most viable for modernizing our transportation revenue model. Your answers to these questions will help guide the Chamber Foundation’s policy research work in the transportation arena while informing the efforts of the NC Chamber-led Destination 2030 Coalition. This alliance of businesses, local chambers of commerce, trade associations, and other growth-minded organizations was launched in August 2020 to give job creators a collective voice in the discussion around our state’s long-term transportation future. Through the Destination 2030 Coalition, the Chamber and its allies will fight for forward-thinking solutions to secure a more sustainable revenue stream for transportation investments in 2021 and beyond.

We appreciate you taking a few minutes of your time to share your thoughts and help the NC Chamber Foundation and the NC Chamber shape a stronger transportation future for North Carolina.
